JAMMU, Oct 24: A nallah carrying dirty drains water from Trikuta Nagar Extension and Marble Market area is directly flowing into Tawi Canal while the Jammu Municipal Corporation, UEED and State Pollution Control Board authorities are sleeping over the matter.
While the residents of the area claimed to have approached the concerned Corporator, Dy Mayor and even Mayor besides UEED authorities, but no agency has taken cognizance of the matter. They said the officials of the State Pollution Control Board, who are always after the Industrial units, brick kilns stone crushers only, have taken no cognizance of the matter.
Rahul Raina, a local resident near Mattu Puli (Trikuta Nagar Ext) said that hundreds of vehicles pass through this road every day. A large number of people including Irrigation Dept officials notice the dirty nallah water flowing into the Canal (Near old CAPD office) but no body bothers. He said once two UEED employees came about month back, just inquired from the people and left. The nallah during flood in August also washed some portion of road there but no agency either JMC or R&B has taken up any repair work there. The people are facing hardships.
K K Sharma, a local businessman said he had approached the concerned R&B authorities and even the JMC for taking up repair work but the result is ‘big zero’. No agency is bothered about the plight of the general public. He said drain water is flowing into fresh water of Tawi Canal. It is serious offence but no body takes cognizance. The road has been washed away but the JMC seems to be sleeping over the matter. He urged upon the Commissioner JMC, DC Jammu and SPCB authorities to take serious note of the issue.
