Namdhari XI, Gurdaspur Club, Corps of Signal enter QFs

JAMMU, Mar 11: Registering convincing victories over their rivals, the formidable sides of Namdhari XI, New Gurdaspur Club and Corps of Signal Jalandhar entered into the quarterfinals of the ongoing All India Police Martyrs Hockey Memorial Tournament-2015 at KK Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here today.
In the knockout matches played today, Namdhari XI defeated J&K XI, while Gurdaspur Club got better of Dogra XI and Corps of Signal outplayed CISF to enter the last eight stages.
The opening clash of the day was played between Namdhari XI and J&K XI, in which the former emerged winner by 9 goals. Leading by 4-0 in first half of the game, Namdhari XI took heavily on to opposition and scored five more goals to win by 9-0.
Inderpal Singh of Namdhari XI was declared SNTPL man of the match for his brilliant performance. He scored two goals, one in 5th and the other in 15th minute of the game.
In another match, New Gurdaspur Club outplayed Dogra XI by six goals to four (6-4). Both the teams scored two goals each in the stipulated time and the fate of the game was decided by penalty shoot-outs during which Dogra XI was able to net the ball twice while Gurdaspur converted four of the chances to make it 6-4 in their favour and enter the quarterfinals. Goalkeeper of Gurdaspur Club Charanjeet Singh was declared SNTPL man of the match, who was awarded a cash prize of Rs 3,000 by the chief guest Yoginder Koul, IGP IRP Jammu.
The third match of the day was won by Corps of Signal defeating CISF by 4-1. Joshan Paul of Signals was awarded SNTPL man of the match for his outstanding display of the talent during the match.
In tomorrow’s fixture, BSF will take on Air Force, Punjab and Sindh Bank will face Namdhari XI, J&K Police will lock horns with New Gurdaspur Club and Punjab Police will clash with Core of Signals.
