JAMMU, Mar 10: J&K unit of National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) held a workers’ meet here today under the chairmanship of NDPI JK president, Rajesh Gupta.
The meeting passed a resolution demanding renaming Jammu after Raja Jambu Lochan.
Speaking in the meeting Rajesh Gupta claimed that name of Jammu also figures in Mahabharata.
He also said that recent findings of Harappan remains and artifacts of Mauryan, Kushan and Gupta period at Akhnoor have added new dimensions to its ancient character.
“As such history of Jammu till 1730 is like a mystery, little was known until 1730 AD, it came under the rule of Dogra king, Raja Dhruv Deva. Today city of Jammu is known as City of Temples,” Gupta said.
NDPI leader while addressing to the workers said, “According to one of the most popular myths, the name Jammu is derived from the name of Raja Jambu Lochan who founded Jammu in 14th century BC when during one of his hunting expeditions at river Tawi he saw a goat and lion drinking water at the same place.”
