JAMMU, Oct 23: Sunny Nanda, a well-known speedball player, is leading the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) speedball team to participate in the 35th World Speedball Championship in Egypt.
The event, hosted by the Egyptian Speedball Federation and recognized by the Egyptian Olympic Committee, will take place from October 30 to 2 November, 2024. This marks a historic moment for J&K sports, as 8 players from the region are competing at this world championship for the first time.
The J&K team is divided into junior and senior categories. 6 junior speedball players from various schools in J&K will accompany the team, including Aryana Choudhary from Delhi Public School Kathua, Ekam Singh from Katra Public School Kathua, Rehaan from Jammu Sanskriti School, Manvendra Singh from Jammu Sanskriti School Kathua, Ekjyot Singh from Katra Public School Kathua, and Ranveer Verma from Jammu Sanskriti School. Additionally, Sahil Janjua and Sunny Nanda will compete in the senior men’s doubles and super solo categories.
The players are representing J&K under the banner of the J&K Sports Speedball Association, which is recognized by the J&K Olympic Association. All players have previously won national gold medals in their respective categories. Winners of the gold medal in this championship will be sponsored by the Speedball Federation of India for the next World Championship, which will be held in Poland.
Nanda highlighted the significance of this opportunity and expressed optimism for the team’s performance. Shaiju Chacko, the chief guest at the event, extended his best wishes to the team, expressing hope that they would bring glory to India and J&K. Pooja Malhotra, Founder Patron of the association, and Ashu Peter, President of the All J&K Christian Sabha, also wished the team success.
