JAMMU, Sept 3: The radiation oncology department of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH) has again proved their oncology expertise by successfully treating 1000 patient on Linear Accelerator (LINAC).
With the successful treatment of Rachhpal Singh, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has become the first hospital in the UT to have performed 1000 Linear Accelerator (LINAC) treatments. The Radiation therapy at SMVDNSH is done using Elekta Versa HD Linear Accelerator (LINAC) the most advanced radiation therapy system.
Speaking about the treatment facility, Dr Rajpal Singh (Radiation Oncologist) said, “Cancer is the second most reason for mortality in the world as well as in the region. Adopting the latest developments and modalities helps in reducing the mortality and morbidity rates owing to the condition. Using the technology, we have been able to treat early to advanced cancer in all over the body parts. We have also performed complex procedures like Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT) and Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) with submillimetre accuracy.
The Elekta Versa HD Linear Accelerator (LINAC) at SMVDNSH offers classic 3-D conformal radiotherapy to advanced stereotactic radiation therapy. Apart from having advanced radiation capabilities, Elekta Versa HD Linear Accelerator (LINAC) also allows to track the movement of tumours, especially those who have considerable movement (liver and lungs). It also assists in targeting the tumours more accurately and decreasing the potential side effects of the therapy on normal cells.
Equipped with sophisticated conformal beam-shaping technology and high dose rate mode delivery, the Versa HD provides better precision and speed necessary to deliver advanced stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereo static body radiotherapy (SBRT) wherein accuracy and protection of critical structures are crucial. It also offers effective and painless treatment option while ensuring utmost patient comfort.
The state-of-the-art facility is supported by the expert Oncology team consisting of Dr Rajeev Saini (Medical Oncologist), Dr Rajpal Singh (Radiation Oncologist), Dr Abhinav Choudhary (Surgical Oncologist), V Senni Andavar (Chief Medical Physicist), M Muthu Krishnan (Medical Physicist), Shabin Sathar (Senior RTT) and Abin C V (RTT).
