JAMMU, Mar 28: Pancreatic diseases and disorders affect people of all ages, and significantly impact the quality of life of patients and their families but there is no need to worry for these patients, as SMVD Narayana Hospital is fully equipped to treat such patients successfully.
This was stated here today by Dr Manoj Gupta (Consultant- GI, GI Onco & HPB surgery), while addressing a press conference. He said that in last two years he successfully treated about 30-35 patients suffering from pancreatic diseases like chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic tumors and all of them are doing well.
Dr Gupta said, “Our goal at SMVDNSH is to provide a place where patients with pancreatic diseases can receive state-of-the-art interdisciplinary care. We are a large volume centre for pancreatic surgeries. We perform all pancreatic surgical procedures that are affordable with results that are among the best.”
While discussing the cases of those two patients, Dr Manoj said, “The first case was of acute necrotizing pancreatitis in which a 30-year-old male was in critical condition. Pancreatic necrosectomy was performed on the patient and he recovered gradually in the postoperative period and now he is doing well and is symptom free after 8 months.
“The second case was of chronic pancreatitis in which a 28-year-old male was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis with multiple stones in pancreatic duct. After initial assessment, patient underwent longitudinal pancreatojejunostomy and removal of pancreatic duct stones. The patient was discharged on 5th postoperative day”, he said, adding, the patient is doing well after 2 months follow up.
The third case, he said was of pancreatic cancer in which a 32-year-old male patient was diagnosed with obstructive jaundice, pain and fever. Investigations revealed tumour in the head of pancreas causing obstruction to common bile duct leading to jaundice. A whipple surgery was performed on the patient and the patient was discharged on 6th post-operative day. After 3 months follow up patient doing well and is symptom free.
