JAMMU : The BJP today said the “jinx” of policy paralysis which the country was going through for the past 60 years was broken when Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister a year ago.
“There was a policy paralysis in the country for the past 60 years and especially during the last ten years of UPA rule when everything had come to a standstill. But the jinx was broken when a year ago prime minister Narendra Modi took over the office,” BJP MP and spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi told reporters here today.
Lekhi said that the government during its very first cabinet meeting cleared the setting up of a Special Investigation Team to probe blackmoney stashed by Indians abroad.
She said that the Planning Commission was disbanded to set up the NITI Ayog with significant participation of leaders of all the 29 states and Union territories.
“The move augmented better centre-state coordination in policy formulation and evolved a shared vision of national development. The government effectively managed legislative business with the passage of nearly 30 important bills in the Parliament and the historic Indo-Bangladesh Land Boundary Agreement Bill 2015 cutting across party lines which aims to bring peace on India’s north-eastern borders,” she said.
Referring to Modi as a “CEO”, she said that India has finally got an accountable, responsive and efficient “CEO” on the job who works 21 hours a day, seven days a week constantly engaging with the people.
“Narendra Modi has arrived to fulfil the aspirations of more than hundred crore Indians. In its first year the government had to initiate massive re-structuring to create an efficient scam-free, dynamic and responsive administration inherited from UPA’s indecisive, paralytic and a corrupt regime,” she said.
She said that the government also managed to kickstart nearly 30 per cent of the projects which were held up during the 10 year rule of UPA government for various reasons.
The Project Monitoring Group set up in the Cabinet Secretariat cleared 186 projects worth Rs 6.8 lakh crore, she said.
“The e-auction of spectrum fetched over Rs 1.9 lakh
crores to the exchequer. The coal block e-auction generated Rs 2.52 Lakh crores and the entire proceeds would be given to the states. This will enable eastern states to develop at par with rest of the country,” she said.
She said that allowing 100 per cent FDI in Railway will boost its expansion plans.
“In the defense sector, foreign investment is up from 26 to 49 per cent under government route, FDI to India doubled to USD 4.48 billion in January 2015, the highest inflow in last 29 months, from USD 2.18 billion in January 2014,” she said.
She also spoke about the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and the MUDRA Bank launched by the Prime Minister which will provide credit of up to Rs 10 lakh to small entrepreneurs and act as a regulator for ‘Micro-Finance Institutions’ (MFIs).
She said that the government has set a target of Rs eight lakh crore for agriculture credit during 2015-16.
“On the economic front the Modi government performed exceedingly well. Fiscal deficit has come down from 4.4 to 4.1. Rupee is slightly overvalued but stable against the dollar,” she said.
The MP said that many international and national rating agencies have forecast a positive outlook for Indian economy.
“Moody’s has raised India’s outlook to positive. Credit rating agencies Standard and Poor’s and Fitch both rated the country’s outlook as stable. India’s growth rate is expected to rise to 7.5 per cent this year and next, making it one of the fastest growing economies in the world, according to the IMF’s latest economic health check,” she said.
