UDHAMPUR, Nov 13: Supporters of an independent candidate had a narrow escape when their bus, in which they were traveling, caught fire due to some short-circuit at Jhajjar Nallah, here today.
The mishap took place around 9.15 p.m and the bus, bearing registration number JK02AU-7167, was on way from Udhampur to Katra. Around 50 supporters of independent candidate Karnail Singh were traveling in the bus when its engine caught fire due to some short circuit. However, all the persons managed to come out of the vehicle before fire spread out and completely engulfed the bus.
These people were coming from Bhamag area via Udhampur for night stay at Katra and accompanying independent candidate Karnail Singh tomorrow for filing nomination papers at Reasi.
Even as fire tenders reached the spot and tried to control the flames, the bus was completely burnt in the fire.
Police has registered a case in this connection but ruled out any sabotage.
