National Level Rafting C’ship at Reasi from Nov 29: Mir

JAMMU, Nov 13:  A 3-day National Level Rafting Championship on river Chenab at Reasi would commence from November, 29th whereas One day Kul-Hind Musharia at Sheri-Kashmir International Convention Centre, Srinagar would be held  on November, 19th in a bid to lure the tourists to the visit of the State during winter also.
The announcement in this regard was made by Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir in a press Conference held here today.
Director Tourism, Jammu, Sujanya Sharma, Managing Director JKTDC, Shamim Ahmad Wani were present on the occasion.
The Minister said that government endeavours to attract more tourists to the visit of State in winter months and in this regard is going to organize several events in Kashmir and Jammu Division during the winter season.
Mir said over 10 National level Rafting team besides the teams of Indian Tibetan Border Police, Indian Army, Border Security Force, J&K Police, Indian Association of Professional Rafting and  several teams of the State would participate in the Championship. He said that some foreign teams are also expected to participate in the event.
Tourism Minister said that one day Kul-Hind Mushari “Kashmir aur Rohanieth” would be held   for the first time in Srinagar, in which eminent poets and writers of the Country, besides the reputed poets of the State are participating. He said over 25 poets of different States of the Country  would participate in the Mushaira inculding Eminent poets like Rahat Indoori, Munawar Rana, Waseem Baralevi, P S Betaab, Farooq Nazki, Jalees Sheerwani and Rukhsana Jabeen.
He said that such events prove beneficial for promotion of tourism in the state and  added there had been a sea change in the situation since 1990s and the atmosphere was highly conducive to promote Tourism of all categories. He said the perception about the situation in the state had to be re-written and the mindset among the foreign tourists changed in positive direction.
The Minister said that Tourism offered greater employment opportunities and generated wide economic activities, as such, demands focused attention for integrated development. “While steps have to be taken to encourage and Promote conventional Tourism, Skiing, River rafting, Mountaineering, Mountain biking and other adventure tourism need to be properly showcased and encouraged in the state, “he said and added that a vigorous promotional campaign have been started to fetch  high end tourists to the visit of the State. He hoped in coming season the State would witness a big boom in tourist arrival.
The Tourism Minister said that to add the tourism activities in Jammu city focused attention is being given to upgrade infrastructure and explore varied tourism potential. He said besides development of Border Tourism in Sutchgarh, Golf Tourism also developed in City of temples.
