National Level Women Sports Competitions conclude

*State encourages talented girls in sports: DG Sports

JAMMU, Dec 15: National Level Women Competition, Group III Athletics, Badminton and Table Tennis concluded here today.
On the valedictory function, the final event of 4×100 metres relay race was held which Punjab Won while as Tamil Nadu and Delhi secured 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
The sports meet was organized by Directorate of Youth Services and Sports under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA).
Director General, Youth Services and Sports, Jahangir Mir was the chief guest on the occasion whereas DIG BSF Frontier Headquarters, Sunil Mohan Mehta was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director General said that Government is committed to boost talent in sports among school children in the state. He said, Minister for Sports Molvi Imran Raza Ansari is taking keen interest in channelizing such talent in youth both in rural and urban areas. The Director General said that the department is committed to take forward Central Government’s initiative under ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ slogan and is encouraging talented girls across the state.
Jahangir Mir also mentioned that the Department has been able to achieve participation of as many as 2 lakh students in different sports and athletics at various levels throughout the state and also ensured state’s participation in 44 sporting events.
Earlier, the Director General and other dignitaries distributed awards and mementoes among best performing students during the 4 day sports event. Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra won overall trophy in Athletics, Table Tennis and Badminton respectively.
The DG also thanked the BSF, and other organizations for their cooperation and collaboration in making the event a success.
Meanwhile, in Athletics, Punjab lifted the title, while Delhi emerged runners-up.
The Badminton title was bagged by Maharashtra and Haryana claimed the runners-up trophy, while the overall championship in Table Tennis was claimed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi emerged as the runners-up.
