SRINAGAR, Oct 22: The 10th National Pencak Silat Championship for senior and master (Men and Women) was inaugurated amid enthusiasm and fervour at Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Stadium, here, today.
The event is being organised by Pencak Silat Association of J&K under the banner of Indian Pencak Silat Association and sponsored by J&K Sports Council.
Joint Secretary J&K Sports Council, Bashir Ahmad Bhat was the chief guest on the occasion, while Sheikh Riyaz Ahmad (Administrative Officer Sports Council) was the guest of honour.
The three day event, the teams from 34 States and UT’s besides teams from Indian Police and Paramilitary are participating in the championship, which shall conclude on October 24.
Around 1200 participants from different States of India are participating in this event in different weight categories of Tanding besides competitions in Tunggal, Ganda Solo and Regu are also scheduled to be held.
President Indian Pencak Silat Federation, Kishore Kumar Yawley and secretary general, Mufti Hamid Yaseen, Maqsood Ahmad Khan Manager Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Stadium besides officials from Sports Council and other departments also attended the inaugural function.
