National Rapid, Blitz Chess C’ship commences

JAMMU, Feb 24: National Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship, organized by Crown Trust under the banner of All J&K Chess Association and J&K Sports Council on behalf of AICF, commenced at Kangra Fort Banquet Hall Barnai, here today.
A total of 180 persons including 130 players and officials from 23 States are participating in the championship, besides about 20 Grandmasters and International Masters are also participating in this prestigious National.
Rapid event is played with a time control of 15 minutes with 10 second increment, while Blitz with a time control of three minutes and two second increment per move.
Bharat Singh Chauhan, Chairman FIDE Advisory Board and Chairman Commonwealth Chess Federation was the chief guest on the occasion. He appreciated All J&K Chess Association for wonderful arrangements.
Atul Kumar Gupta, president J&K Chess Association , Dr. AS Bhatia, Principal GMC Rajouri and chairman of organizing committee of this National, Senior Prosecution Officer Raj Kumar, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, Baldev Raj, Arvindu Sharma, Ankush Bhardwaj and Ritish Pathania were among the dignitaries present during the event.
Saleem Beig of Karnataka is chief arbiter of this event, while Arvind Mahamal from Goa is deputy chief arbiter, besides other arbiters including Bindu Pathania, Dinesh Gera, Ranjeet Singh, Mansha Mahajan along five technical supporters were present during the inaugural ceremony of the championship.
