National seminar on Mathematical Sciences commences

JAMMU, Mar 22: National seminar on recent trends in Mathematical Sciences commenced today at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra.
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof VK Bhat, Director, School of Mathematics, SMVDU. While speaking, he highlighted the applications of mathematics in chemistry, computer science and other branches of science.
Prof PK Jain, Former Head, Department of Mathematics, University of Delhi said that mathematics is merely not a subject, but a foundation of all sciences.
Prof BS Panda from IIT, Delhi highlighted the importance of discrete mathematics in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and other related areas.
Prof SD Sharma, Head, Department of Mathematics, Central University, Jammu, highlighted the relation of the mathematics to art and poetry.
Earlier, Dr AK Das, Convener of the seminar presented the welcome address, whereas, in the end, Surender Singh presented vote of thanks.
