National seminar on Sheikh Hamzah Makhdoom begins

SRINAGAR, May 19: A two-day national level seminar on Sheikh Hamzah Makhdoom and his contribution to Kashmir Society was inaugurated today at Markaz-i Noor, Centre for Sheikh-ul Aalam Studies (CSAS), University of Kashmir.
The Seminar, organized by Markaz-i Noor, is aimed to highlight different dimensions of the personality and contribution of Sultan-ul Aarifeen.
The inaugural session was attended by a galaxy of intellectuals, academicians, religious scholars and the devotees of Hazrat Sheikh Hamzah Makhdoom from the length and breadth of the State. Moreover, the research scholars of various departments and centres from various universities of the State and the teachers and students of Dar-ul Shifa also participated. The session was presided over by noted jurist Justice (Retd) B A Kirmani, while Chief Information Commissioner Government of Jammu & Kashmir G R Sufi was the chief guest.
Bashir Ahmed highlighted the role of Rishis and Sufis in shaping the Kashmir society from times immemorial.
Justice Kirmani in his address expressed concern over the fanaticism in ideas vis-a-vis Tassawwuf and anti traditional system of belief in Kashmir. He laid stress on initiating intellectual discourses on the subject and hailed the efforts of Markaz-i Noor in this direction.
G R Sufi, in his address, referred to different viewpoints put forth by scholars with regard to eastern way of dealing with spiritual matters. He in his address further said that we must be objective in our writings and discourses.
On this occasion, the official publication of Markaz-i Noor Alamdaar was released. In addition, three more books, Baba Baam-ud Din, edited by Dr Zulfikaar Siddique, Anqa by Shahida Shabnam and a book about style of Kashmir Naat by Nusrat Jan were also released on the occasion.
Vote of Thanks to the dignitaries and participants was put forth by Dr Aziz Hajini. The Seminar will continue for two days and twenty papers on different dimensions of the spiritual epitome of the region Hazrat Sheikh Hamzah Makhdoom (RA) would be presented by the learned scholars and researchers from various institutions of the State.
Dean Academic Affairs Prof M A Wani, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Naseem Ahmad Shah, Chairman Markaz -i Noor, CSAS Professor Bashir Ahmed and Seminar Coordinator Dr Aziz Hajini were also in the Presidium.
