JAMMU, Aug 29: Educational Institutions celebrated National Sports Day with zeal and zest across the State, today.
The Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu today celebrated the National Sports Day on the eve of the birth anniversary of the Hockey Wizard, Major Dhyan Chand.
On the occasion, an exhibition Hockey Match was played between the teams of MP.Ed and BP.Ed course which was won by MP.Ed team by 2-1 goals. Rahul Bansh and Abhinandan Singh scored the goals for the MPEd team whereas Sanjeev Sharma scored the lone goal for the BP.Ed team.
Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, who paid a tribute to the magician of the Hockey, Major Dhyan Chand by garlanding his photograph. Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu along with a galaxy of dignitaries was present on the occasion.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board organized Basketball, Fencing and Shooting tournaments at its Sports Complex here, as part of celebration of the National Sports Day.
In all, 10 teams of Basketball, 128 fencers and 32 shooters drawn from Army, CRPF, various sports clubs from Udhampur and Katra, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, students of Shrine Board’s Sports Coaching Centre and various educational institutions of Reasi district participated in these tournaments.
Jitendra Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, who was the chief guest on the occasion, presented prizes to the winners and runners-up teams of Basketball as well as the sportspersons who were adjudged best in Fencing and Shooting.
Before prize distribution, Mr. Jitendra paid floral tribute to hockey wizard, late Major Dhyan Chand, in whose honour National Sports Day is celebrated on August every year.
Earlier, Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, presented welcome address.
The Sports Department of Govt. Degree College Thannamandi celebrated National Sports Day by organizing intra-college matches of Volleyball (men), Carrom and Chess (women) in the College.
The event was inaugurated by Principal of the College, Shakeel Ahmed Raina in company of some other staff members.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Raina highlighted the importance of the sports and said physical fitness is important for everyone and participation in the sports provides physical fitness and good health.
PTI of the College, Javaid Yousuf also spoke at length on life and contribution of hockey wizard Dayan Chand, whose birthday is celebrated as National Sports Day. Four teams of the boys participated in volleyball and Carrom matches, while two teams of girls participated in Carrom.
MV International School organized a special programme to celebrate ‘National Sports Day’ in the School premises today. Krupali Patel Singh, Arjuna Awardee, National Gymnastics Coach and Member J&K State Sports was the chief guest on the occasion. She interacted with the students and shared her vision and the glory of career in sports.
Rich tributes were paid to Major Dhyan Chand at MV International School while celebrating National Sports Day, today.
For her achievements in Shooting, Geetika of Class 9th B, Junior NCC Cadet of the School was honoured during the event. Director of School, Gourav Abrol shared the vision with regards to development of international level sports facilities at MV International School, while KL Dogra, Principal MVIS was present on the occasion.
National Sports Day was celebrated with a patriotic feel and enthusiasm at MHAC School Nagbani.
Each one of the students and the faculty members got involved in the celebrations of National Sports Day to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Dhyan Chand.
Sports Captain Aakrshit Rekhi made every one aware of the day through his elaborative speech, while Girl Sports Captain Bhumika displayed her Judo skills.
Tanmayee and Pranavi narrated the beautiful poems on the importance of the Sports Day.
Main attraction of the day was the demonstration of skills by the students in the fields of Yoga, Judo, Taekwondo, Fencing, Skating and Football.
Principal of the School Sween Puri appreciated the skills of students and their display.
The National Sports Day was celebrated at Water Sports Centre Nigeen in Srinagar. On this occasion long distance swimming event was also held, under the supervision of Riyaz Wani, swimming expert. The swimmers who completed the event included Syed Abbas Zadie, Hamid Mustafa, Syed Mohammad Hassan Zadie, Mehdi Mushtaq, Firdous Ahmad Dar, Sheikh Rashid, Zahid Ahmad Wandroo and Dr Sheikh Tariq.
National Sports Day was celebrated at Sports Stadium Poonch with great enthusiasm and fervour, today. Exhibition matches were played in hockey organized by SAI in collaboration with Hockey Poonch under the aegis of Hockey J&K.
MLA Haveli, Shah Mohd Tantray was the chief guest on the occasion and SSP Rajiv Pandey was the guest of honour.
To celebrate National Sports Day, J&K boxing coach Anil Wadhera and manager Indoor Stadium, Satish Gupta along with around 70 boxers pledged to involve more and more youth in sports activities and help them not to fell prey to drugs and intoxicating substances, to not to derail from the mainstream.
