JAMMU, Sept 16: The Nationwide Sanitation Campaign launched yesterday to mark the birthday celebrations of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, continued today also.
Emphasizing an attitudinal change among all the stakeholders towards achieving the goal of making India a clean and healthy nation, Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh today called for decentralized solutions, ensuring sustainability of improved sanitation infrastructure besides services and enforcement. The Deputy Chief Minister, while addressing at a one day workshop on “Swachh Survekshan -2018” held under Swachh Bharat Mission, said that this first Pan-India survey is the largest of its kind in the world envisaging measurement of citizen connect with sanitation outcomes impacting lives of 40 crore people. The event was organised by the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in collaboration with Union Urban Ministry. Commissioner JMC, M Raju, Director ULBs, Sushma Chouhan, National PMU,SBM(U), MoHUA Anil Parkash, Deputy Director ULB, BS Katoch, Chief Executive officers, Executive Officers besides other senior officers of JMC and ULBs were present on the occasion.
As a part of the ongoing “Swachhta-Hi-Sewa” campaign, DDC Udhampur Ravinder Kumar administered Swachhta pledge to students of various educational institutions. Speaking at a function organised at Government Higher Secondary School Boys, the DDC exhorted upon the students to fulfil Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Clean India. He also asked the students to create awareness about cleanliness among others and sought their cooperation in making the district Open Defecation Free. A number of competitions like debates, essay writing and painting were also organised during the day along with a cleanliness drive at Ward No-2 Udhampur in which District Panchayat Officer Sandeep Seointra and other district officers participated. Similar, awareness events were also held in various subdivisions of the district.
The Nationwide Sanitation Campaign “Swacchta-Hi-Sewa” was launched in migrant camps in Jammu District by ML Raina, Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) and KK Sidha, Deputy Commissioner (Migrants) Jammu and Kashmir. The calendar of the activities including painting, essay and debate competition will be organised among the students residing in camps and the students of the educational Institutions running in camps. Mass pledge was also held in all the migrant camps viz Purkhoo, Muthi, Buta Nagar and Nagrota. Relief Organisation also constituted Health Committee of each block comprising of 5 members in different migrant camps which will monitor the sanitation, hygiene and cleanliness and also monitor the work done by the sanitation agencies for the purpose.
As a part of nationwide cleanliness drive, the Vice Chairman JDA launched the cleanliness drive Swacchta-Hi-Sewa”. JDA in the first phase has prioritized to get the illegal hoardings, mulba and reharies and khokhas removed from its colonies and shopping complexes. The Shopkeeper’s Union at ISBT alleged that the heaps of rubble and damaged vehicles and spare parts have become nuisance and is giving ugly look to the entire ISBT. It has chocked drains and is emitting foul smell. Responding to their demand and in view of the drive “Swachhta-Hi-Sewa”, the VC JDA, Rajesh Kumar Shavan ordered for the effective steps by the engineering wing by first making the concerned aware about the Swachta Abhiyan and Executive Engineer JDA has been asked to get it publicised so that people should clean their premises. The defaulters have been warned to lift their material at their own, within two days failing which JDA will take strict action. He visited various shopping complexes and took review of the sanitation works. Renovation and repair of wash rooms and fixing of tiles have also been ordered at certain places to improve the hygienic condition of the shopping complexes. VC was accompanied by Executive Engineer JDA, AEE and concerned officers and officials of JDA.
Marking the third anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission, multiple awareness drives were held across Jammu division by Newsline executing agency for Swachh Bharat mission in collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation and various educational institutions. A cleanliness and awareness drive was held at Government Higher secondary school Roop Nagar in which school children, school administration, volunteers, officials of Government and police administration and employees of JMC took part. Various demonstration and cleanliness methods were delivered by speakers present during the event. Speaking on the occasion, SHO Police station Janipur Inspector Virendar Gupta advised the students to keep cleanliness not only in their school but in their residential areas also.
District Police Jammu initiated the Swachhta Abiyan under “Swachhta-hi-Sewa” campaign at District Police Headquarters, Jammu under the supervision of SSP Jammu Dr Sunil Gupta. Besides SP (Ops) Vinay Sharma, CPO DPO Jammu Prashant Mahajan, DySP Hqrs Raj Paul Singh, DySP (Prob) Priyanka Kumari and all officials of DPO Jammu participated in the drive and extensive cleanliness was carried out inside and outside the office premises of DPO Jammu and its peripheral areas.
District Police Kathua launched “Swachhta-Hi-Sewa” campaign at each Police unit in which all Supervisory Officers, SHO Police Station and other Incharge Subordinate units actively participated. Besides, cleanliness activities all Supervisory Officers also interacted with their subordinate officers and police personnel and advised them to keep cleanliness not only in the working places but in their residential areas.
A debate competition was organised by Bhaderwah Police on the topic “Swachhta-Hi-Sewa” at Government Higher Secondary School Bhaderwah. A large number of students participated in the debate, in which Masrat Nadeem bagged first position, Shoaib Ahmed secured second position and Mohini Beloria clinched third position. They have been given trophies and certificate of participation. The debate competition was chaired by DC Doda, Bhawani Rukwal, ADC Bhaderwah Imam Din, Additional SP Bhaderwah, Shaazad Salaria, SDPO Bhaderwah, Brijesh Sharma, Principal HSS (Boys) Bhaderwah, Annie Kotwal and SHO Bhaderwah, Inspector Jitender Singh Sambyal.
A joint sanitation drive was conducted by Bhaderwah Police along with Municipality employees under nationwide sanitation campaign “Swachhta-Hi-Sewa”, at Police Station Bhaderwah, Passari Bazaar, Seri Bazaar and Old Hospital Bhaderwah. Around 30 police officers and jawans along with 20 municipality employees took part in this sanitation drive.
NCC cadets of 2nd J&K Girls Battalion, GCW parade organised a rally on the topic “Swachhta-Hi-Sewa”. College Principal Prof Geetanjali A Rana along with senior faculty of the college flagged off the rally. The students took oath on “Swachhta-Hi-Sewa” and reiterated to leave no stone unturned to achieve the goal of cleanliness at their respective levels.
Awareness rally was organised by the Educational Zone RS Pura under the “Swachhta-Hi-Sewa” campaign, in which students from various schools took part. The rally was flagged off by the Zonal Education Officer, RS Pura, Kamla Devi. The rally started from the office of the ZEO RS Pura and after passing through various areas concluded at ZEO Office RS Pura. The rally was attended by Rajesh Kumar, Incharge BMS Mill Area, Kishor Gupta, Incharge GMS Mill Area, Surjeet Singh Chib, Incharge Legal Cell ZEO Office, Swaran Singh, Raj Kumar, Teachers and many others. Various other schools falling under Zone RS Pura also took out awareness rallies.
To launch “Swachhta-Hi-Sewa” campaign, SCIENTIA International School organised a cleanliness drive-cum-awareness rally, which starting from school campus towards the Baba Kailaknath Mandir area. Students from host school and Government Middle School Keran and Government High School Gurha Brahmana along with their staff took part in the rally. The event was inaugurated by Mohammad Alyas Khan, Sub District Magistrate, North. Among others, ZEO Tarsaim Lal Gorka, Parshotam Bhardwaj, Chairman SCIENTIA International School, Bantalab, Bharti Bhardwaj, Principal, SCIENTIA Internat-ional School, Bantalab, ZEPO, Community Health Officer and Head Masters of various Institutions were present on the occasion.
As part of “Swachhta-Hi-Sewa” campaign, Principal, staff and students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Canal Road took out a rally. Later, all the participants of the rally cleaned the school premises.
