JAMMU, Aug 18: National Conference (NC) has claimed that collection of Toll at Sarore Plaza and imposition of Property Tax are undemocratic because these have ignored the recommendations of elected representatives of Urban Local Bodies.
In a handout Rattan Lal Gupta, NC Provincial president Jammu asserted that money collected at Toll Plazas is used for proper maintenance of roads and condition of the road in the vicinity of the Plaza is highly deplorable despite being part of Jammu-Pathankot National Highway which connects J&K with rest of the country.
He said that damage caused to the vital Tarnah Bridge recently led to suspension of traffic along vital Jammu Pathankot road.
The NC leader claimed that even the concerned Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari also had mentioned that this Toll Plaza within 60 km range is illegal.
“Gadkari issued directions to the concerned authorities that such illegal Toll Plazas must be removed immediately. Despite all these facts being known to the people at large the NAHI continues to collect huge money at Sarore Toll Plaza,” the NC leader maintained.
He said that imposition of Property Tax is yet another glaring example of burdening the people of J&K by adding this Tax to their liabilities as the people are unable to come out of the economic crisis due to prolonged terrorism and COVID.
