NCC cadets of J&K shine at All India Nau Sainik Camp

JAMMU, Oct 6: Thirty NCC cadets of Naval Wing of J&K brought laurels to State by achieving overall 3rd position in the recently concluded All India Nau Sainik Camp held at Naval Base Karwar, Karnataka. 590 NCC cadets representing all the States across India competed in various fields.
The team of J&K NCC cadets comprised of 18 boys and 12 girls cadets from all the three regions of the State participated in the camp. This is the first time that cadets have achieved such a feat. The team was given rigorous training by instructors of 1 J&K Naval Unit NCC Srinagar at Nagrota, Mansar in J&K and Govindsagar Lake in Himachal Pradesh under the supervision of Commander SK Singh, Commanding Officer 1 J&K Naval Unit NCC Srinagar and Girls Cadet Instructor Ekta Sharma. Timely support from NCC Directorate J&K ensured the training was focused and cadets achieve peak performance at the right time.
During the All India Nau Sainik Camp, Inter Directorate competitions were conducted for Republic Day Prime Minister Banner Competitions in Ship Modelling (Miniature Warship Making), Firing/Shooting, Boat Pulling Races, Drill, Semaphore–Naval Signal Communication, Whaler Boat Rigging Arrangements, Service Exam (Written), Seamanship (Practical Exam on Bends, Hitches & Knots) and Health and Hygiene (Written & Oral).
During the camp, the cadets were taken onboard Naval Warships to get first hand experience of Indian Navy. Visits to Naval War memorial and Warship Museum in Karwar were also organized.
The team also bagged ‘Best in Drill Trophy’ and remained high in merit in almost every event reflecting the quality of training imparted. The NCC competitions are designed to encourage healthy competitive spirit among the cadets while promoting esprit de corps and National integration.
The NCC activities and achievements of cadets are noteworthy, earlier cadet Shikhi Sambyal of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar won the All India Essay writing Competition and was awarded by Prime Minister on October 2.
