JAMMU, Oct 21: National Council for Urban and Rural Development Society (NCURDS) organized 22nd District Children Science Congress 2014 Jammu with enthusiasm at Government Girls High School, Gandhi Nagar, here.
Around 250 children and 50 teachers of different Schools participated in the event.
About 50 projects were presented by the children on the focal theme “Understanding Weather and Climate” and sub themes mainly taking into consideration the innovative solution to the local societal problem.
The programme was supported and catalysed by NCSTC, Department of Science and Technology, Delhi.
Tarsem Lal, Chief Education Officer, Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. In his inaugural address, the chief guest emphasized on the importance of organizing such programmes in inculcating scientific temperament among the children who are future scientists, engineers, doctors and great leaders of the country.
He also lauded the efforts put by Zaffar Ullah Khan, Founder Secretary NCURDS, who with the support of NCSCT, DST Delhi is always ready to organize different science promotion programmes in the interest of students and teachers of the State.
Earlier, Kuldeep Gupta, Academic Coordinator NCSC, J&K presented welcome address.
Swatantar Sharma, Headmistress GHS Gandhi Nagar in her address remarked that such programmes can increase the queries and creativity among the students. The vote of thanks was presented by Zaffar Ullah Khan.
The Jury members included Ajay Sehgal, Vinay, Harpreet Singh and Pankaj Dhillon from Education Department and Rashmi Chandail and Sanjay from University of Jammu.
The selected students in senior group included Ruchita Bhatia, GHSS Shastri Nagar; Aryan Sethi, Heritage School; Harshdeep Singh, Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar; Sidhant Chib, BSF Sr Sec School, Paloura; Shriya Rusti, KC Gurukul; Anjali Basotra, GGHSS Nowabad; Nidhi Singh, Presentation Convent Sr Sec School Gandhi Nagar; Parth Raina, SOS Hermann; Praguni Goel, KC International; Sonah Mahajan, Presentation Convent and Naseeb Singh, GHSS Paloura, while in junior group, the selected students include Vanshika, KC Gurukul; Shadab, Model Academy; Kanishk Thapa, Shiksha Niketan, Shivam Raina, SOS Hermann School; Bhavya, Heritage School and Vagisha, Air Force School Satwari.
