NDA Govt policies responsible for increasing unemployment: NZIEA

JAMMU, Oct 6: A meeting of Northern Zone Insurance Employees’ Association,  Srinagar Divisional Committee, was held at Jammu wherein  Com. Pawan Gupta,  Divisional Secretary,  strongly opposed the policies of the Government of India.
“Concentrated on Neo-Liberalism and Privatization,   policies of the NDA Government  have resulted in increasing unemployment and job losses, continuing price rise, widening inequalities and sharp deterioration in the quality of employment through widespread contractualism, casualisation of work places,” he alleged .
He referred to the latest statistics from the Quarterly Employment Survey,  conducted by Labour Bureau of eight employment industries- textiles, garments, jewellery, IT, leather, handlooms, metals and automobiles- which shows that employment generated in these eight sectors was only 1.35 lakh in 2015 compared to 4.9 lakh in 2014
“In his election speeches, Modi had promised 2 crore jobs per annum, while in fact, nearly only  2 lakh jobs got created in these 3 years. Reports are there that after implementation of GST, a big number of job losses (in lakhs) is there in small factories where the number of workers has gone down by 50 to 70 percent,” Pawan Gupta said and added that it was  a result of labour laws being diluted and amended in the favour of employers and to legitimize their violations.
The NZIEA leader alleged that NDA Government’s  moves were aimed at removing all protection and rights that the workers have won after several struggles. “The plan of this Government is to club around 44 existing labour laws into five labour code laws and push overwhelming majority of workers in the organized sector out of purview of any labour law. The proposed Small Factories Amendment Bill is a big attack on the working class as it will make all the factories, having less than 40 workers, out of purview of 14 basic labour laws, and the women workers will not have any right of paid maternity leave. So it is clear that Modi Govt is  trying to befool the common man by making attractive speeches and promises, while nothing is happening on the ground level,” he alleged.
During the meeting, Com Romesh Chand, Com  Rajesh Gupta, Com  Raj Kumar, Com  Dinesh Sharma and Com  Rajesh Kumar of NZIEA Divisional Committee shared similar  views.
