JAMMU, Mar 25: For infusing discipline and inculcating good traits among the students, besides the development of their wholesome personality, introducing Scouting in Government Schools is the need of the hour.
This was stated by the Director General Youth Services and Sports, Navin Agarwal during the concluding function of the week-long Basic Course for PEM’s/PET’s as Scout Master and Guide Captain at the office of the Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu, here today.
25 female teachers and masters and 23 male teachers and masters attended the Course, which was held from March 19 to March 25, 2014, under the patronage of the DG Sports, Navin Agarwal.
Mr Agarwal said that Scouting apart from helping in building character and infusing discipline, helps the students to be physically fit and mentally healthy, as it involves yoga, allied activities and adventure sports.
The DG Sports directed the organizers to furnish the list of equipment needed to hold Scouting/Guiding Camps in Government Schools and provide ample opportunity to the deserving children.
The participants demonstrated many activities learnt during the Camp and the violin performance by Ankush was the highlight of the demonstrations. Yoga demonstration and the language for deaf and dumb were the other highlights of the concluding function.
Tips about hoisting of flags, knowledge about First Aid, making of various knots and performing Yogasans were the other activities held during the Camp.
Earlier, the programme began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the chief guest and the other dignitaries present on the occasion, which was followed by the cultural items including Dogri folk songs and dances, Punjabi folk songs and dances presented by participating Scouts and Guides.
Prominent among others who attended the concluding function were Ved Prakash, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu; I D Soni, State Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides and Wing Commander, M M Joshi.
On the occasion, State Organizing Commissioner Guide, Usha Chuni was honoured by the Chief guest, the Director General Youth Services and Sports for her outstanding contribution in the movement of Bharat Scouts and Guides in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
