JAMMU, Feb 21: Neeru Manhas of PG Department clinched gold in 100 mtrs sprint in women’s category, while the gold medal in 100 mtrs sprint in men’s section went to Ankit Sharma of GDC Billawar in the 41st Inter-Collegiate Annual Athletic Meet 2014-15, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, which concluded at University Sports Stadium, here today.
The silver and bronze medals in sprint race in women’s section were bagged by Pooja Sharma of PG Department JU and Renu Devi of GDC Samba respectively, while in men’s section, the silver medal went to Sunny Kumar of Dogra Degree College Jammu and Vinay Manhas of PG Department JU.
Twenty nine Colleges of Jammu province affiliated with the University of Jammu participated in the meet.
Prof. Keshav Sharma, Dean, The Business School and Controller of Examinations, University of Jammu was the chief guest of the concluding ceremony, while Vijay Singh Sambyal, DIG (Retd.) J&K Police was the special guest on the occasion.
Prof. Keshav Sharma congratulated the medalists and athletes for their participation in the said Meet and also appreciated the efforts of the organizers for conduct of the Meet despite bad weather conditions.
Earlier, Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, presented welcome address.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Prof Yudhvir Singh, Principal Govt. Degree College Ramban, B.K. Magotrta, H.S. Chib, Anchal Singh, Kuldeep Magotra, R.C. Thakur, H.S. Gill, S.S. Gill, Sumnesh Sharma, Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Ajaz Malik, Mahesh Sharma, Romesh Sharma, Dr. Brij Baloria, Dr. Mandeep Singh, Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Naraiyani Jamwal, Suman Sharma, Sudesh Bhagat, Balbir Singh Chib and Neelam Chalotra.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by P.D. Singh, who also presented vote of thanks.
The meet was organized and managed by the team comprises of Vikesh Sharma, Goutam Sharma, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Vikas Karlopia, P.D. Singh, besides students and staff of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu under the leadership of Prof. Bhau.
The meet was officiated by Chamail Singh, Gurbachan Singh, Narinder Sharma, Vikram Jamwal and Gourav Sharma under the technical expertise of athletics coaches Nirmal Singh and Harsimran Singh.
