Netizens have a laugh after Babar Azam gets prize cheque with two different amounts

COLOMBO, July 21: A photo of Pakistan skipper Babar Azam accepting a prize money cheque with two different amounts printed on it after his side’s victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test match at Galle went viral, provoking laughter in the virtual world.

The amount was stated in words as $2,000 and in numbers as $5,000. A fan commented on the image by saying, “After deducting GST.” Someone else remarked, “CTC vs in-hand salary.”

Later, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) – the game’s apex body in the island nation – clarified that $ 5000 was awarded as the winning team’s prize money on Thursday. It also apologized for the error. “We express our regret for the error that was caused in the “presentation cheque” that was made in the ‘presentation cheque’, an SLC media release said. The cricket body said the post-match presentation cheques are prepared by the ground rights holders for Sri Lanka’s in-bound tours. “Nevertheless, Sri Lanka Cricket, as the governing body of the game, will take full responsibility for the mishap,” the media release said. It promised that steps will be taken in the future to ensure such errors are avoided.
