NIMAS team creates history, scales highest peaks of 28 States

JAMMU, Oct 13: In an extraordinary attempt to hoist the Indian flag on the highest peaks of all 28 States, a team of mountaineers from National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) under the leadership of Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal has successfully accomplished Mission Har Shikhar Tiranga – Ek Muhim Matrabhumi Ke Liye.
A team of 20 core members was led by Director NIMAS, Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal. The campaign was supported by the Ministry of Defence and flagged-off by Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu from NIMAS Campus, Dirang.
In total, this mission covered around 30,000 kilometers in the last one year by covering all the 28 States of the country making it a very unique and historical expedition.
The major challenge was to locate the highest points of all States and it took around three months to design the map and connect the dots of the highest point of all the States. Post the research, planning and training, listing of the peaks and their recce was done along with all the necessary permissions, the team led by Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal started with largest mountaineering expedition ever done in Indian history.
The test phase started in October 2022 which ended in December 2022. During this period the highest peaks of all seven North Eastern States were scaled. In the 2nd phase, the team started an expedition in the month of May 2023 from the Himalayan State of Himachal Pradesh. Mt Jongsong (7462M) – Sikkim was completed in the final stage on 2nd October 2023 amidst heavy rainfall and bad weather conditions in Sikkim. The team even survived the cloudburst in Sikkim.
“The mission started as a mountaineering expedition to spread awareness about the National Flag and the highest peaks turned out as a nationwide movement. The team also collected soil from the top of all 28 mountains. This campaign created a history and also as an inspiration to treasure and safeguard the values of unity, nationalism & patriotism.” the statement said.
