JAMMU, Apr 9: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) has appealed to the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir to enhance the monthly medical allowance for pensioners from Rs 300 to Rs 1000, bringing it at par with the Union Territory of Ladakh.
In a statement, NMC president Subash Shastri emphasized the urgent need to align J&K with the standards of other UT administrations and begin the distribution of the revised medical allowance. He highlighted that Ladakh had already implemented hike in medical allowance from April 1, 2020, while J&K’s allowance remains unchanged for over two decades despite soaring medical expenses.
Shastri also demanded a 2% hike in House Rent Allowance (HRA) for UT employees, citing the recent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) beyond 50%. Further, he urged the Central Government to release the pending DA/DR arrears for 18 months (Jan 2020-June 2021) and the three blocked DA instalments, which were withheld during the pandemic.
He stressed that rising inflation is severely affecting the salaried and retired population. Additionally, Shastri reiterated the demand for merging 50% DA with pay and pension and called for the regularization of daily-rated workers under SRO-64.
