No discrimination with Jammu in sports: DGP

JAMMU, Dec 4: “No discrimination is going on with the Jammu region pertaining to sports activities organised by Police Department”.
This was stated by Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Parsad during a press conference here today.
He said that so far the department has organised nine prestigious tournaments out of which five were held in Kashmir and four in Jammu.
“J&K Police is all set to host 61st All India Police Hockey Championship from December 7 to 14, in which 10 International Olympic players will participate and after this tournament the championship balance in both Jammu and Kashmir regions will come to equalizer”, DGP told here.
Over the last two decades, besides maintaining public order and tackling insurgency, J&K Police has made a landmark as a host, for organizing many prestigious and high profile All India Police Championships, bestowed by All India Police Sports Control Board, New Delhi, in a professional manner, DGP informed.
He said that all the arrangements for the 61st All India Police Hockey Championship being organised by J&K Police under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board from December 7 to 14 were finalized.
DGP further informed that more than 500 players in twenty four teams from various States, Union Territories (UTs) and Central Police Organizations (CPOs) will participate in the eight day long championship including 10 International Olympic players.
He said that the championship would be played at two venues in the winter capital viz KK Hakku Stadium and Jammu University, adding that the tournament will provide platform to the players to refine their talent.
DGP further informed that all the arrangements for the guest teams relating to accommodation, transport, sight-seeing, cultural programmes, and medical facilities have been worked out by different committees which are being supervised by Organizing Secretary
Arrangements with regard to security, traffic, police bandobust, water supply and sanitation in and around the venues were also finalized, he added.
To a query, DGP said that the league matches will be played at Jammu University ground and quarterfinal, semis and final matches will be held at KK Hakku Stadium.
Later DGP Ashok Prasad along with K Rajendra Kumar, ADGP Armed/ Law & Order and Dr SP Vaid, Additional DGP Headquarters unveiled the T-shirt and caps designed for the participants of the championship.
