SRINAGAR : The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today passed a resolution saying that there is no place for extremism in Kashmir where people of different religion, caste, creed and colour are living together.
Leader of the opposition Omar Abdullah suggested for the Resolution which was seconded by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and it was later passed unanimously.
Immediately after the Question-Hour was over and the chief minister introduced a Bill to provide for the regulation of private security agencies operation in the state, Mr Abdullah was named by speaker Kavinder Gupta to speak.
The working president of the NC said what had happened yesterday in the House brought a bad name to the state and it was debated in the world.
“It was not Kashmir, where father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi saw a ray of light when entire sub-continent was under communal fire in 1947.
We in Jammu and Kashmir were being known for communal harmony and brotherhood. It was during late leader Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, people of the state raised the slogan Hindu-Muslim-Sikh Itehand Zindabad,” he said.
It was the people of Kashmir who fought the raiders with lathis, the former chief minister said adding people raised slogans like “Hamla Awar Khabardar, Hum Kashmiri Hain Tayaar” during the raid in 1947. People living in Jammu and Kashmir belong to different religion and we have to respect each others sentiments. Situation is not good, we had to snap the internet in Jammu yesterday and there are clashes in Udhampur today, Mr Abdullah said and expressed his serious concern over the new developments.
The NC working president demanded that a resolution should be passed and a right signal sent to the entire world that “we the people of Jammu and Kashmir believe in communal harmony, brotherhood and tolerance.”
Let us send a strong signal across the world that there is no place for hatred and extremism in Kashmir, he said.
Responding to Mr Abdullah’s request the chief minister said he was very happy that leader of the opposition has supported that there is no place for hatred and extremism in Kashmir. (UNI)
