None of Indian hockey players issued notice by NADA: Srinivas

BENGALURU, July 16: There had been no violation of NADA norms by Indian hockey stars bound for Rio Olympics and none of them were issued notice by the anti-doping agency regarding filing of ‘whereabouts’, Sports Authority of India Director General Injeti Srinivas today said

The SAI chief, who accompanied Sports Minister Vijay Goel to inspect facilities at SAI Southern Centre here told reporters that reports in a section of media on this issue was not true.

He however said that two “individual athletes” were issued notices for not updating their ‘whereabouts’ status to the NADA. ”Yes, there was a case of two athletes who had not updated their whereabouts status with NADA. They later explained the reason for their difficulties to update their whereabouts on NADA website and the Agency is satisfied with their explanation. No hockey player was involved. They are individual athletes,” he said.

Reports had claimed that Rio-bound Indian hockey players were issued show-cause notices by the NADA for ‘whereabouts’ failure and two out of them were senior men hockey players.

The ‘whereabouts’ clause makes it compulsory for Olympics bound sportspersons to be included in the reserve testing pool and need to to provide their location of stay on a quarterly basis and a 60-minute time slot between 6am and 11pm each day to be available for testing. If they fail for three times, it is considered as violation.
