Normalcy returns to Samba

SAMBA, Aug 21: The situation is Samba district where massive protests were held by mob at Raya Morh and other areas against a sacrilegious act last night is returning fast to normal.
Except the protests by people in the Samba town,  Purmandal, Baribrahmana and Kaluchak area in the morning, the situation remained calm during the entire day and no incident was reported from any where in the district.
The protestors, however, assembled at Samba town early in the day and blocked the National Highway for some time. But later the mob dispersed and the NH was restored.
The situation was mostly calm in the entire district. While the traffic plied on NH and shops also remained open in some areas especially in Samba and Vijaypur towns.
However, restrictions will continue for third day in some sensitive areas tomorrow, Sheetal Nanda, District Development Commissioner, Samba told Excelsior.
She said all the educational institutions will remain closed for the third consecutive day in the district tomorrow.
She said the situation remained peaceful today barring some incidents in the morning   at few places. DC said it was only a rumor about the sacrilegious act and no such act has taken place in the Raya Morh area.
To restore total normalcy in the district Sheetal Nanda today organized a meeting with prominent citizens of Samba district and Sarpanches and sought their cooperation in maintaining the peace. She also cautioned them against the vested elements trying to create law and order problem by spreading rumors.
She said the people should not fall prey to emotional blackmailing and appealed them to be aware of rumor mongers bent upon disturbing peace for their vested interests.
The district administration was assured by Sarpanches and citizens that they will provide full cooperation to the administration in maintaining peace and brotherhood in the district which has been an age old tradition in Samba. They also demanded that culprits behind these rumors should be brought to the justice as they had tried to disturb the peaceful co-existence in the area.
Additional SP Samba, Faisal Qureshi said that situation in the district is fully under control and barring a few incidents of protests in the morning no untoward incident took place and the overall situation remained peaceful in the district.
DySP Vijaypur, S S Samyal said that situation was calm in Vijaypur, Raya Morh, Jhak and other areas today where protests were held yesterday and no incident was reported from any where. He said heavy police deployment was made in the area to control the situation.
He said several police personnel were injured during the stone pelting yesterday which included SHO Ramgarh, Shiv Dev Singh, SHO Vijaypur and other police personnel.
He said the SHO Ramgarh whose leg was fractured has been admitted in Amandeep Hospital for treatment.
