CEC urges CFI to open Ladakh Cycling Association in Leh

In the prize distribution ceremony, CEC LAHDC Gyal P Wangyal was the chief guest, who while speaking, urged the organizers to conduct this event 2 to 3 times in a year so that the interested children could maintain continuity and their potential in cycling also get enhanced.
Wangyal urged CFI to consider opening Ladakh Cycling Association in Leh that will ensure equal opportunity to children from far flung and poor families to explore their cycling talent.
Cory Wallace and Jason English, who are multiple times 24 hour marathon winners and members of their national teams and Indian Champion Kiran Raju also expressed their views on the occasion.
In the elite category, Corry Wallace of Canada stood first, Jason English of Australia stood second and Devender Kumar secured third position. The amateurs displayed their passion for cycling with Sonam Norboo topping the list in men’s category and Stanzin Chondol holding first place in women category.
The Trailblazers, an under 17 category for school kids, was a unique talent hunt organized under the aegis of Cycling Federation of India. The top 3 winners get a chance to train at national camps organized by CFI in Delhi during the year. The kids who booked their berths to claim the future of cycling in the country are Mohammad Reeza, Sonam Stanzin and Stanzin Rigsang in boys section and Sonam Angmo, Dawa Dolma and Stanzin Lhamo in girls section.
The event was organized by Wisdom Eventosports, co-promoted by Meraki Sport and Entertainment—a Mumbai based sports Management Company and was conducted under the aegis of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI).
Earlier, Jamyang Tsering Namgial, MP Ladakh flagged off the 2nd stage of the North Quest Challenge from Disco Valley near Shanti Stupa road on 21 September as the chief guest along with JD Education Ladakh Tashi Dolma.
The 2019 edition witnessed participation of 30 Indian National Riders, 2 International UCI elite athletes, 40 Amateur riders and more than 340 local school kids. Around 70 students from different Government schools also participated in the Trailblazer category for the first time on the initiative of Education Department Leh that hired similar number of cycles for these kids. There were three categories including Elite, Amateur and Trailblazer.
