JAMMU, Jan 6: The two-day North Zone Muay Thai Championship, organized by the Muay Thai Association of Jammu & Kashmir (affiliated with the United Muay Thai Association of India), concluded at the Boxing Ring, Police Ground, Jammu. The event saw participation from over 250 athletes representing eight States and Union Territories: Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. The championship showcased remarkable talent and was a testament to the growing interest in combat sports in the region.
Neha Jalali, Director of the Press Information Bureau, Jammu, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In her address, she praised the efforts of the organizers and emphasized the importance of such events in promoting sports and engaging youth in positive activities. “Sports are key to the development of youth, and this event has certainly provided a platform for young athletes to shine,” she said.
Vikram Randhawa, BJP MLA from Bahu constituency, attended as the guest of honor. He highlighted the role of sports in steering youth away from the dangers of drugs. “Attracting youth to sports is one of the best ways to address the issue of drug abuse,” Randhawa remarked.
Sahil Aggarwal, CEO and Chief Patron of the Muay Thai Association of Jammu & Kashmir, expressed his gratitude for the successful organization of the event. “It is our responsibility to encourage youth involvement in such sports to channel their energy positively,” Aggarwal stated.
Arun Gupta, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu, also attended as a special guest. He expressed his support for the initiative, along with Sanjay Bansal, Secretary General, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal and Amit Singh, President of the Muay Thai Association.
