Srinagar, May 2: Putting all speculations and rumors to rest, the veteran separatist politician and hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, today made it clear that he has not nominated anyone as his successor.
The 87-year old separatist, who has been keeping unwell since past two years, told reporters here during a press conference that it is his party, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and forum, All Parties Hurriyat Conference, to decide whom to nominate his successor after his death.
“See, we have Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, which is our party and the second is our forum, All Parties Hurriyat Conference in which there are 22-23 constituents. As far as TeH is concerned, they know what to do after Geelani dies. There is no need to tell them. And, as far as APHC is concerned, they also know what to do after Geelani dies. They will nominate their head through deliberations. So, you don’t need to worry about this,” he said.
Earlier, speculations were rife that Geelani may nominate his trusted aide and friend, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, as his successor and chairman of Tehree-e-Hurriyat, which was formed in year 2004 by Geelani.
