JAMMU, Sept 8: Castigating the State Government for paying no heed to the grievances of school and college lecturers, National Panther Party (NPP) activists held protest demonstration at Exhibition Ground here today.
A large number NPP activists led by senior leaders Harsh Dev Singh, Balwant Singh Mankotia and others, assembled near Press Club here today and started protest demonstration and dharna. They alleged that contractual lecturers placed in Govt schools and colleges were facing lot of exploitation and harassment.
Citing the exploitation of educated and other unemployed youth of the State as worst form of human rights violation, Mr Singh said that highly qualified educated unemployed youth in the State were treated like mere expendables. There is strong resentment among youth. Their deep anger can explode any moment like a catastrophe and cause irreparable damages.
Expressing solidarity with these lecturers, NPP leader regretted that such highly qualified youth were being paid Rs 7,000 per month in Higher Secondary schools and Rs 8000 in Polytechnics which had not been revised for the last more than 13 years.
He said that they were oppressed like bonded labourers whose honorarium was grossly meager in proportion to the quantum of work assigned to them. Seeking a thorough review of the plight of teaching fraternity, Harsh Dev sought intervention of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take serious cognizance of the issue.
He reiterated his demand of enhancement in the honorarium of all such contractual/ academic arrangement lecturers to Rs 25,000 as against around Rs 45,000 being paid to the regular employees/ lecturers.
