JAMMU, Aug 21: Activists of NPSU today held a protest demonstration   for the revocation of Article 35A of the Indian Constitution, which accords special citizenship rights in Jammu and Kashmir.
The NPSU activists assembled near Press Club Jammu and held demonstration amidst raising of slogans against Article 35A. The protest was led by Thakur Variender Singh,   president of NPSU, who threatened a mass movement against Article 35A.
The NPSU leader said that they have full faith on Supreme Court of India and no one should try to influence the Apex Court by making statements. “To fight for fundamental rights of the people, NPSU is intervening in the case of Article 35A to convey the national argument that this Article is unconstitutional,  passed by President of India in 1954 in total violation of Constitution. Prof. Bhim Singh shall represent us,” he announced.
Alleging that Article 35A has deprived people of J&K of their fundamental rights since the last 63 years, he dubbed the Kashmiri supporter of Article 35A anti- people. “Only Kashmiris cannot decide the views of whole J&K, since J&K comprises of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and both Jammu and Ladakh are demanding revocation of Article 35 A so that people of J&K can enjoy Fundamental Rights guaranteed in the Indian Constitution,” he added.
The NPSU president also attacked BJP for its dual stand on Article 35 A. “During elections, the State BJP leaders were seeking abrogation of Article 35A describing it as unconstitutional but after coming to power, they have filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court wherein it described Art 35A as an established law having been “considered, deliberated and decided” by the Supreme Court,” he said.
“If the saffron flavoured Government believes  that  Article 35A is a settled law accepted by all and a permanent feature of the Constitution, then why was the BJP parroting its abrogation during Parliamentary and State elections besides incorporating it in its vision document?” he asked.
