NSS Unit of MIER celebrates National Youth Day

JAMMU, Jan 12: The NSS Unit of MIER College of Education celebrated National Youth Day to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, here today.
Dr Renu Gupta, Director MIER was the chief guest on the occasion, while HoDs of various departments along with the faculty and students of the College attended the programme.
Dr Rohinika Sharma, NSS Program Officer presented welcome address and gave Power Point presentation.
She highlighted that Swami Vivekananda was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is credited for bringing the teachings of Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century.
Dr. Sharma also emphasized on the role of youth in nation building as propagated by Swami Vivekananda.
Four short documentaries on the contribution and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda were shown to the students followed by panel discussion.
Dr. Annie Koul, HoD B.Ed General and Poonam Soni, Assistant Professor MIER College chaired the panel discussion session.
Dr. Renu Gupta in her address said that the destiny of the country is in the hands of the youth who have an important role to play.
She called upon the youth to sit together and critically think about the changes that needs to be brought about in the governance of the country.
Dr. Gupta also appreciated the efforts of the NSS Unit for organizing such events.
