JAMMU, June 30: National Students Union of India (NSUI) held a protest against J&K State Sports Council for giving sports category certificates to non-recognized sports events.
The activists of NSUI assembled outside the premises of Sports Council at MA Stadium and raised slogans against the Council particularly Secretary for making the Council a den of corruption.
While speaking, Ranjoot Singh, NSUI leader and a National Judo Player said that the Secretary of the Sports Council is playing with the career of the students by giving undue benefits to blue eyed boys. Secretary is ignoring genuine sportspersons under sports quota in professional colleges, he said, adding that in judo there is massive ignorance.
“No infrastructure has been upgraded for Judo game which is clearly visible with the matting at Judo Hall at MA Stadium, where matting is in bad condition”, he said, adding that despite several requests, no attention has been paid towards the bad condition of the Judo hall.
Secretary is giving undue benefits to the unrecognized sports and totally ignoring the recognized games, he said, adding that Senior Member of Sports Council Rifat Abdullah walked out of the scrutiny committee meeting yesterday accusing the Sports Council of operating as a mafia to accommodate non deserving sportspersons under sports category.
Singh demanded immediate removal of Secretary Sports Council and urged the Chief Minister to conduct inquiry into the whole episode, in which undue benefits have been given to non-deserving players.
