NYC continues hunger strike at Jantar Mantar

JAMMU, Feb 20: The hunger strike of volunteers of National Youth Corps (NYC) from Jammu and Kashmir at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi entered fourth day, as they are demanding permanent absorption in their respective departments.
The protesting youth were demanding the Government to come up with a comprehensive policy for absorption of about 8000 NYC youth on available vacancies where they are already rendering their services for more than three years and convert their monthly honorarium into salary and clear all pending cases.
State president, NYC, Asif Ali Bhat, said every time they presented their genuine demands to the Government; they got nothing but verbal assurances. He blamed the Government to bring their future towards darkness despite the fact their selection was made purely on merit basis.
The negligent attitude of both the Central and J&K Governments has forced us to choose the path of agitation and we will continue with it till the Government comes up with a comprehensive policy for their permanent absorption in their respective departments, he added.
