RAMBAN, Nov 12: Chief Minister and working president of National Conference Omar Abdullah today hit back at Congress for its statement on “neglect” of backward areas in the State, saying the party should scan its functioning rather than finding faults with National Conference.
“Instead of finding faults with others you (Congress leaders) should scan your own functioning,” Omar said while addressing largely attended public meetings at Hall and Shamthi in Ramban Assembly constituency.
“Tell me if you see damage in J&K due to NC what happened to you in rest of the country. It was not National Conference there,” Omar said while rejecting the misinformation being spread by some Congress leaders regarding the development scenario in the backward areas and criticizing National Conference.
In a veiled attack on Omar Abdullah Government, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had yesterday said that there was “utter neglect” of remote and backward areas in J&K since 2008.
Taking a dig at Congress leaders, Omar said, “You cannot hunt with hound and run with hare”, adding “when National Conference was campaigning for Rahul Gandhi and Congress candidates in Parliament elections, Congress saw everything good in National Conference and now when we are fighting elections separately Congress finds faults in National Conference”.
Exuding confidence over the National Conference’s mass support and wisdom of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he said that National Conference will form the new Government in Jammu and Kashmir by all means. “No Government is possible in the State without the participation of National Conference”, he further said, adding “NC kept away from Government formation in 2002 on its own decision otherwise it was in a position at that time too to form the Government for being the majority party in the State Legislative Assembly”.
“Day dreaming by PDP and BJP’s 44+ drama will end up in oblivion”, he said and added that dreaming, however, is not a banned commodity. He said that PDP is spreading falsehood and baseless propaganda while BJP is staging drama to create illusion and confusion among the voters. He said people of Jammu and Kashmir are wiser enough to read between the lines and understand the designs of these parties to create artificial hype for misleading public.
He said the so-called poll analysis and predictions have nothing do with ground reality and the reality is that the National Conference is going to win the elections comfortably and with majority.
Criticizing the detractors of National Conference for circulating false propaganda against it and its Government, Omar said, “by unleashing baseless misinformation campaign and covering the ground realities political parties like PDP want to belittle the huge achievements registered by National Conference led Government in the State during the last over six years”. He appealed to the people to remain cautious against the vested interests and stand united against their nefarious objectives.
“Those who tell you that this Government has not done anything, ask them who constructed over 18000 kilometres of new roads, 300 major bridges, hundreds of hospitals and health units, over a thousand schools, colleges, universities, technical institutions, ITIs and other educational institutions”, he said, adding “ask them who created hundreds of new administrative units particularly in backward and remote areas to enhance the reach of people to administration, ask them who empowered people by establishing Panchayati Raj, ask them who introduced UMEED for women development, who provided employment to over one lakh youth in Government sector and an equal number in the private and the industrial sectors through various initiatives”.
“Ask them who laid edifice for indigenous power generation of 9000 MWs and launched projects of the capacity of over 15000 MWs in six years”, he further said, adding that it was his Government which not only made new strides in all developmental sectors but enacted legislations to bring transparency and curb the chances of corruption.
He asked the people to question PDP as to what it has done during its term in office other than bringing the stigma of No 1 corrupt State to Jammu and Kashmir, encouraging corrupt elements, giving misappropriation a free-hand and stopping the rehabilitation of youth in the mainstream by torpedoing the resolution brought in the State Legislative Assembly in this regard.
“PDP and its leadership has no locus standi to talk on these issues. Those who have remained neck deep in wrong doings and political misconduct and skulduggery ought not to give sermons to others”, he said.
Omar showered praises over Dr Chaman Lal Bhagat, NC contesting candidate from Ramban Assembly Constituency and described him an honest, hardworking personality whose only aim is to serve his people sincerely and to the best of his capacity.
Speaking on the occasion, Provincial President National Conference, Jammu, Devender Singh Rana asked the people not to get astray by the propagandist elements and extend their support to National Conference and its candidates to ensure large scale development in all areas particularly in the hilly, backward and remote areas.
He referred to the comprehensive development in all the sectors registered in the State during the last six years and said that the achievements of Omar Abdullah led Government are historic and path breaking.
