SRINAGAR, Apr 3: The former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, today accused National Conference (NC) of misusing its mandate for not making country aware about Kashmir and said that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, should own his share of the UPA failure in the State.
Mufti, while campaigning in Pahalgam, Anantnag constituency, to garner votes for her daughter, Mehbooba Mufti, accused the NC of creating wedge between people of the State and rest of the country by keeping the nation always in dark about the ground realities of Kashmir and aspirations of the people.
The PDP patron said that for lasting peace and stability in Kashmir there is need of serious efforts at various levels, both within and outside the State. While seeking votes for his party, he said that the PDP will involve Parliament and people outside it to build a broad-based consensus on the core political issue.
Mufti said the NC leadership has always misused the mandate by not acting as ambassadors of people to make the country aware about the problems in Kashmir and Kashmir problem.
The PDP patron said had NC acted seriously and helped to bridge gaps between New Delhi and Kashmir, situation would have been different today. “It, instead, made power its only choice and went on to do historical blunders and sold the interests of the State and its resources”, accused Mufti.
Mufti said the PDP is going to the Parliament not only to give voice to the aspirations of people in Kashmir but make all-out efforts to seriously pursue its agenda of political resolution. “For that, the party will reach out to different shades of opinion in the country, which, unfortunately, till now has not been done by the NC. And this has resulted in suffering to people from last 65 years”, he added.
The PDP patron said that the NC has taken people for granted. “The forthcoming Parliamentary polls offer a historic opportunity to people to understand that if we have to really come out of the present quagmire there is need to elect the candidates who are serious enough to pursue their case and have a clear agenda to rewrite a new future for Jammu and Kashmir”, said Mufti in his address.
Mufti said the NC leadership is frustrated by gauging the popular mood prevailing on the ground which is totally against them. “They have badly failed to keep the promises they had made to people before coming to the power”, he added.
“And now just saying the polls are not about his performance, Omar Abdullah is failing himself, not anyone else. He can’t run away from his share of failures, which as the leader of the UPA in the State he must own”, said the PDP patron.
Mufti said there is an urge for change in the State and this time a credible alternative to NC-Congress combine is available in the shape of the PDP. He said there is realization among people that instead of providing any relief, NC-Congress Government has given people unimaginable pain and misery over the last five years.
