SRINAGAR, May 11: To raise awareness about the various environmental challenges the world-famous Dal Lake is confronting with, a social service group “Change” organised the first of its kind On-the-Spot Dal Lake painting competition titled “Taaseer and re-cycling Kashmir” on the bank of Dal. The initiative was taken to portray the real and present condition of Dal Lake, which is facing threats from plastic bottles, polythene, shrinking of area and open dumping of sewerage. “Tell anyone about the Dal, he will shower praise about its beauty, but no one tells you the problems the Dal is facing,” said one of its organizers.
21 artists including school children and professionals took part in the event and portrayed the on-the-spot condition of Dal.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Farooq Ahmad Shah said that the government is trying its best to preserve Dal and other water bodies in the state and appealed people for the cooperation to make the Dal clean and free from pollution.
