Hyderabad, Dec 10:
Bruna Alexandre, the 17-year-old girl who is ranked number three in Brazil and is with the team which is aiming to win laurels in the X Volkswagen World Junior Table tennis Championship, which began at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium here last evening, is the cynosure of all eyes.
If one gets a tragic feeling seeing that her right arm has been amputated, then she detests it saying ‘I have got used to playing everyone, including the regular and normally built girls.’
“I wish that people will treat me as they would any other medal contender,’ Bruna, who was struck by tragedy following a thrombosis attack that crippled her right arm forever,” told UNI here today.
It was while accompanying her table tennis playing elder brother that she developed an interest for the sport. The handicap and the initial problems, notwithstanding, she learnt the game and took to it eight years back.
A quick learner, she gradually started sending notices of her talent to extraordinary levels. As the third ranked junior girl in Brazil, the Santa Katrina-based girl was an automatic choice for the national team that arrived in Hyderabad.
“I wish to be the world champion in the near future and also make it to Rio Olympics in 2016 as a member of the full-fledged national team. I am determined and hope to realise my dreams,” asserted Bruna, who is currently a member of the South American champion outfit. (UNI)
