RAJOURI, Sept 29: Foiling a bid to smuggle poppy straw, Kandi police today arrested a person and recovered 1240 grams of poppy straw from his possession.
According to a police official, a team of Kandi police station headed by SHO Mustaj Ahmed while on routine naka checking signaled a tempo (bearing registration number JK11-7057) coming from Kashmir side to stop and put it to general frisking.
“While checking the vehicle, a box containing apples was found which contained poppy straw. The box was in possession of a person namely Mushtaq Ahmed son of Hasham Din resident of Morha Khandi Gali,” the official said, adding the accused was arrested and the vehicle was seized while tempo was also detained for questioning.
He said that a case under relevant sections of law was registered in this connection at Kandi police station and further investigation was going on.
