JAMMU: A civilian was killed and an army jawan sustained critical injuries in an “accidental blast” near Army’s unit in Nagrota area on city outskirts of this winter capital today, official sources here said.
“An accidental blast took place this afternoon in ammunition depot outside Nagrota Cantt while the jawans were carrying out ammunition repair of 81 mm mortar ammunition,” a defence spokesperson here told.
He said a defective shell had an “accidental blast” in which one civilian painter identified as Sanjiv Kumar Baru was killed while Hawaldar Mohanty got injured.
“The injured jawan has been evacuated to the Military Hospital Jammu,” the spokesman said adding that the matter is being investigated and enquiry ordered. (AGENCIES)
