One year imprisonment in cheque bounce case

JAMMU, Mar 19: Chief Judicial Magistrate, Samba has convicted Balwan Singh, son of Mukhtiyar Singh of Samba in cheque bounce case and awarded him one year imprisonment.
As per details, the case revolves  around five cheques  each issued  by accused Balwan Singh in  favour of complainant namely Goutam Singh. However, when the cheques were presented for encashment at the bank, the same got dishonoured due to “account close”.
Accordingly, legal notice was issued to accused. However, he failed to make the payment. Hence the complainant was logged before court under Section 138 NI Act for  judicial determination.
The CJM Court not only awarded one year simple imprisonment but also directed him to pay Rs 11,50000 along with simple interest of 9 percent per annum from the date of cheque till the date of judgment.
In case of default of fine, the accused shall further undergo simple imprisonment of six months.
