“We have all the basic requirements available to run the OPD service which we have started today; we have deputed doctors, consultants and other necessary paramedical staff,” he said.
He said that they will be taking over the departments as soon as they are ready to be made functional. “As of now, they had the OPD completed and we overtook it, and the same is going to be the case with other departments; as and when they are ready, we will be overtaking them accordingly,” he said.
As per the officials, the overall shifting of the GB Panth Hospital in Sonwar to the newly constructed 500-bed paediatric hospital at Bemina is going to next few more months.
They said that the shift is going to take place in a phased-manner while underlining that the building that has been now constructed is going to improve patient care, particularly paediatric and maternity healthcare.
Also, the GMC is currently carrying out the recruitment of doctors, consultants and other assisting staff in full swing and recently applications were invited from the eligible candidates for more than 12 sub-categories of paediatrics.
The officials also said that the recruitment of the manpower as well as the construction works are being carried out in parallel so that all the departments and ready to start their operations for the betterment of patient care and well in time.
Regarding the location of the hospital, with it situated along the National Highway, it is going to effectively cater to the healthcare needs of people living in the north, south as well as central Kashmir.
The connectivity of the National Highway is also going to provide a hassle-free passage to people to reach the hospital which was not possible earlier at Sonwar where at times, ambulances heading to the hospital were seen stuck in the traffic jams even as the location made it tough for people from north to reach the hospital well in time.
