UDHAMPUR, Nov 9: The Open District Handball Championship took place at Mini Stadium Udhampur, with eight teams from various clubs showcasing competitive spirit over the two-day event. Organized by the District Handball Association Udhampur. The championship aims to promote handball among youth in Udhampur without any Government or Non-Government financial aid.
SSP, (Retd), Ranjit Singh selector for the Handball Association of India, served as the chief guest, inspiring participants to engage in sports for physical fitness, positive thinking, and leadership development. He commended the District Handball Association’s efforts in promoting the sport.
Manmeet Singh, General Secretary of the association, expressed the organization’s commitment to fostering sportsmanship, fitness and competitive spirit in the community. The event drew support from notable figures, including Praval Sharma, vice president of the J&K Handball Association; Col. Balwant Singh and Shashi Sharma, Director of Physical Education at GDC Udhampur.
In the Girls’ section, Ramnagar Club defeated Barta Club with a score of 8-6. In the Boys’ section, BBSVP Club overcame Ramnagar Club by 12-6, and later triumphed over GDC Udhampur Club by 15-8 while Ramnagar Club beat Barta Club by 12-08. Matches were officiated by experienced national players Pawan Jamwal, Ajit Kumar, Sanjay Sudan and Soujanya Vaid, adding technical expertise to the event.
