Opening of Medical Colleges

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘ State to get 500 more MBBS seats’ DE June 10.
The decision of the Central Government to allocate 500 additional MBBS seats in worth appreciation. The increase in seats will give a great boost to medicare sector in the Valley, and at the same time create employment opportunities for the State youth. Though opening of five new medical colleges in the State had been proposed some years back, one wonders why it took the Government so much time to release the amount.
There is quite shortage of specialist in the State right now. The rural areas of State lack basic medicare. Though there are primary health centres catering to needs of people much more needs to be done to improve it. The absence of doctors in rural areas is a matter of concern. Most of the times people have to rush cities for seeking medical treatment  from the specialists.
This causes great inconvenience to patients and their attendants. It involves a huge amount which they are not able to bear. With opening of these colleges one hopes that shortage of doctors in rural areas can be overcome to a great extent.
Hope these colleges start functioning at the earliest in the service of State people.
Yours etc….
