LEH, May 9: The eleventh edition of Operation Vijay Cup, traditionally organised by the Khaltsi Cricket Club (KCC), which had begun on April 28, 2017 at Khaltsi Cricket ground concluded here today.
United Khaltsi defeated Higher Secondary School Khaltsi in the finals by a narrow margin of 5 runs to lift the title.
The tournament, which is extremely popular in Leh, witnessed participation of 12 teams from Leh, Nimu and Kargil. The event was supported by Indian Army.
The tournament named as Operation Vijay Cup is organised yearly in the memory of the Kargil martyrs by Khaltsi Cricket Club.
Earlier, in the semifinals, United Khaltsi defeated Skur-buchan and Higher Secondary School Khaltsi got better of Alchinathang.
In the finals played today, United Khaltsi scored 98 runs for 9 wickets and Higher Secondary School Khaltsi scored 93 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Senior officers of the Indian Army, Sarpanch Khaltsi, SHO and other civil dignitaries were present during the ceremony.
Prizes were awarded to the winners and runners-up teams. Man of the match award ws given to Tundup Namgyal Jigmat, while best batsman of the series award went to Tsering Gytso and the best bowler of the series was claimed by Padma Tashi.
Jigmat Rabgias, President of the KCC, appreciated the efforts of Indian Army which provided assistance in terms of trophies, prizes, sponsoring of kits, cricket gear, refreshments and allied arrangements.
