Oppn demands probe into police action on students

NEW DELHI, July 31:
The Opposition in the Lok Sabha today demanded a probe into the police atrocities against students protesting against the new UPSC civil services examination pattern in the capital and demanded scrapping of the new system.
The House witnessed loud protests by SP and RJD-led Opposition over the police action against students, following which the government assured them that it would take a decision on the issue at earliest.
The RJD and the SP were demanding that Home Minister Rajnath Singh come to the House and give a statement on the issue. The SP and RJD members came into the Well shouting slogans. The capital has been witnessing massive demonstrations by civil services aspirants in front of the UPSC office for the past few days against the Civil Services Aptitude Test(CSAT) which the students were saying gave primacy to English language at the cost of Hindi and regional languages.
A number of students have been injured in police lathi charge so far and the issue has found echo in the House earlier too.
Today the matter was raised by Dharmendra Yadav of the SP and Rajesh Ranjan Yadav of the RJD during Zero Hour. They said a large number of students had been injured in the police lathi charge during peaceful protests and two were missing.
The SP MP said why Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been proclaiming his love for the Hindi language, was silent on a examination system which was so unfair to Hindi-knowing students.
He demanded immediate change in the UPSC examination pattern. Mr yadav said said the Government had just been giving assurances of setting the things right but no action had come, so it should now tell the House today itself as what it was doing to undo the injustice being done to Hindi and other regional languages.
