JRG members perform despite all odds

JAMMU, Oct 1: Notwith-standing the promise made by Confederation of Indian Industry (CCI) and Taurus Events that the 1st of its kind Night Run will be organised to promote Jammu as a tourist destination and promote sports and fitness among the people, the organisers of the much hyped ‘Glow Run’ held in the City yesterday, has failed to provide proper arrangements to the runners.
What was unpleasing to see was that the traffic continued with the Marathon and the concerned authorities hardly bothered to help the runners.
“It is very difficult to run with the traffic going on. Moreover, it hampers your sporting spirit and the objective of the event gets shattered,” said one of the ace runners on the condition of anonymity.
The organisers also failed to install sufficient hydration points, which ought to be there during an event like this.
“Expecting good show from the participants in absence of the basic facilities is to ‘cry for the moon’,” said a participant while expressing anguish over insufficient hydration points.
What was shell-shocking to see was that the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) also failed to provide proper electric arrangements as the lighting was hardly up to the mark.
“It is simply like flogging a dead horse to perform during a Night Run, when the electric arrangements are not proper. It is hard to focus in insufficient light,” said another runner.
However, the positives of the Marathon were that despite all odds, the members of Jammu Runners Group (JRG) blossomed during the Run.
The five members of the Group who became Race Ambassodors included Surinder Choudhary, Rajesh Padha, Dilawar Khan, Kanu Priya Garg and Sumeet Singh, while those who became pacers from JRG were Robin Raina, Stephen, Tajinder Singh, Dr Maninder Singh, Amit Ahuja, Mr Sood, Rajesh Padha and Anik.
